Early childhood is deeply relational, and learning does not stop at the centre gate. Our Christmas gathering at Acland Park Playground and our growing connection with Arbour Green School and Te Rau Horopito School reflect our commitment to learning that is rooted in community, place, and continuity.
The Christmas gathering brought whānau, tamariki, and teachers together in a relaxed outdoor setting to celebrate the year that had been. This shared experience strengthened Mana Whenua | Belonging, allowing children to see their learning community extend into the wider world. Families were welcomed as valued partners, supporting Mana Tangata | Contribution and reinforcing strong, respectful relationships.
Alongside this, our engagement with local schools, particularly the newest to Rolleston; Te Rau Horopito School, opening in Term 1—supports smooth, confident transitions for children. Teachers from Te Rau Horopito joined us in ur upstairs conference rooms for professional learning and development sessions, where values, learning approaches, and expectations were shared.
These connections ensure continuity of learning and reflect kotahitanga, as ECE and school, work together with a shared vision for children. Whanaungatanga underpins these relationships, while whakamana supports children and whānau to feel confident as they move into their next learning chapter.
Celebrations and transitions alike are grounded in manaakitanga—care, respect, and hospitality, and also support mauritanga, helping children feel emotionally secure through change.
